Honda to Build “Zero Waste” Plant in Indiana

29 06 2006

My Man Mitch   honda.jpg

My Man Mitch hard at work again! This is the coolest news I’ve heard lately! First we’re building the world’s largest biodiesel plant and now producing hybrid Hondas in Indiana! Honda plans to hire 2,000 workers to staff the new plant. (Maybe the new jobs will offset the loss of jobs by airline workers and Delphi workers – GM supplier of electronics) “Our goal is that this plant in Indiana will have the smallest environmental footprint of any Honda auto plant in North America.” They will probably build Civics and Fits there. I’ve wanted a Fit for awhile anyway… story (Houston)  , story (Indianapolis)  , story  ,  CBSNews story

Skype Spam…anyone else getting these?

19 06 2006

Okay, so I'm as excited as everyone else about free Skype-out minutes (until the end of the year) so got my Skype stuff updated to the latest client and it's been working great. Today though I got an IM on Skype and after a few moments, the guy 'charlessoludo0072' says "I'm Prof.Charles Soludo from the Central Bank of Nigeria" to which I replied "Whatever… ;)" and them, I'm not kidding, the $10,000,000 internet scam. Amazing. Anyone else getting crap like this?

I also got a bot inviting me to a site with 'free games'. I guess that's what I get for putting a Skype Me! link on my blog!

Carburetor cleaned, but A/C took a crap

15 06 2006

Ok, I found the time to clean the Carter 2bbl carb with the method described in my last post. It worked really well! I found that after I took out the venturi cluster and cleaned out the idle tubes and gave everything a thorough cleaning with a healthy dose of carb cleaner, that I had a nice fuel spray instead of the drip I had a couple of hours before. I also found the reason it started so hard in the morning…there was a slit in one of the vacuum lines at the carb that operated the choke. I replaced it with new hose and it started on the first try this morning. Sweet!

Nevermind, I left work and the Jeep shuddered and backfired so hard, it blew the ass-end out of my muffler. Can't wait to do the Motorcraft 2100 upgrade! The Carter 2bbl on the 4.2L 258 is computer controlled and very problematic. I could do the "Nutter Bypass" but I'm planning to swap it out and eliminate tons of vacuum lines and hopefully fix issues there. I'm also planning on an ignition upgrade that my buddy Matt is helping me with. I'll have photos when we get it done and hopefully a step by step on the upgrade. It's already been documented here, but without the photos. He's a fabricator and is designing a custom mounting system for the coil! He has some cool fabbed Jeep parts for sale here.

Props to Kevin Rose

15 06 2006

I've been watching Kevin Rose for a long time (TheBroken, SYSTM) and initially I loved, but the content has been going downhill lately and I visit it less and less frequently. I do, however, love the portal idea and the ability to rate "digg" stories and apparently I'm not alone. I've come across a few sites borrowing from his model and now AOL/Netscape have released (today) what they deem the Digg-killer. Here's a few of the sites I've noticed borrowing:, Netscape's site, Care2 News Network and 3spots has a list of 219 other digg-type sites listed there!she'sa

Digg is moving from a tech-news site though to an all-news site (Digg v3). That's fine, but for news, I "digg" Newsvine. There is a loyal following for tech news and I think may see a decline in their numbers by changing their format. Maybe I'm wrong, Kevin usually knows what he's doing!

Carb issues on my 89 Wrangler YJ

1 06 2006

 Only in a Jeep

My jeep has the inline 6 cylinder engine which seems to have enough power, but I've had at least 3 times where it has died while coming to a stop and it is really hard to start at times. When it finally starts, you can smell the raw fuel dumping into the carb and I know my gas mileage is suffering. I found an article describing the exact issue I'm having and a how-to on fixing the problem without rebuilding the carb! I don't have the time this weekend to attempt it, but hopefully next friday I can give it a shot! I'm excited!

I really want to get it out onto some trails and try it out. My last Jeep was a 97 TJ with coil spring suspension and this one has leaf springs. It rides noticably bumpier on-road, but I heard they perform just as well off-road. I've been making a list of local trail rides to check out. [Haspin Acres, Rockport Off-Road Park, Badlands OffRoad, and Redbird State Riding Area.]
