VMFA-134 “Smokes”

16 02 2006

I spent some time in the 4th Marine Air Wing as a Powerplants mechanic for VMFA-134. (1995-1998)

I’m looking to re-connect with J.J. Lynch, Perea, Harmon, “SpaceGhost” Thompson, Bingham, “Rico” Ramirez and others.
Would like to hear what you’re up to these days…

Cpl. Crowe, I don’t know if you remember me, my memory is foggy these day. I was running the Tool Room with Sgt. Ward from 95 to 99. I have forgotten a lot of the Marines names but I do remember Harmon, Weisberger, Chappa, Singer and Hines. Also I remember Perez. Write back and refresh my memory. I do have some pictures from Hawaii, I would like to put names to. Like the CWO for Ordnance. I remember CWO Miller, but who was his predecessor? Have a Merry Christmas. Semper Fi

Hello!

I do remember you GySgt. Retcho, you worked with Ward and SSgt. Atchison too then…before he left.
I was Active Duty in the line shop from 2/95 – 4/98. During some of that time, I was working as expeditor for a while with SSGT. Bricker. A lot of my enlistment, I worked night crew.
My P/L boss was SSgt. Biros, replacing GySgt. O’Kelly. Biros was replaced by Weisberger. Capt. Chapman was replaced by CWO Miller.
I worked in the line with Cpl. Barr, Sgt. Chrisco, Sgt. Stapleton, Sgt. VanHorn, Cpl. Legerreta, Sgt. Graddy, SSgt. Chapa, SSgt. Shad, Cpl. Lynch, Cpl. Thomson, Sgt. Harmon, Cpl. Bingham, Sgt. Perea, LCpl. Ramirez, and a few others I have forgotten.

Some other names I seem to remember:

Electricians: Walton, Scarborough, VanDyke, Sgt. Guyre
Ordies: Balak, Ollom, Sgt. Roof
Airframes: Barnhart, Jackson, Andel
QA: SSgt. Yerardi, GySgt. Hines
Seat Shop: Folts, Brenner

I’d love to see the photos if you ever get them posted online! Maybe we could put some names to faces.
OOH Rah!

And…SSgt. Connolly and Charlie Davis in Ordinance and Cpl. Mclaughlin In SeatShop. Didn’t Cpl. Ojeda (O.J.) work in Tool Room too for a while along with that WM from Idaho? What was her name…Sgt.?????? She was only about 5′ tall, reddish hair…
I’m sure I’ll remember more as I try…

Sgt. Pratt, then she got married and changed her name to Brendle (something like that). There was another WM, blondest hair, I can’t remember her name. She didn’t stay long. Connolly married Sgt. Graddy, who got out. Wasn’t CWO Darvell before Miller? I remembered his name after reading your response. Do you remember SSgt. Galindo’s first name (PC). I didn’t do it this year but I usually sent Col. Vaughn a Christmas card. I should have done it this year and may still. It will be late. I will probably communicate with you on email. It’s a little more private. Top Singer still lives in San Diego, Top Taylor was living in Fredricksburg, VA. Have a Merry Christmas. I’ll work on the Pic’s. Semper Fi….Mark

Cpl. V, I remember you also. Wasn’t the Sgt. (Female) in ord. Connelly. Long Brown hair, athlete looking? I have pics from Hawaii, some of Key West, Alaska and Hill. If you want I can send you a few at a time. Maybe you could I.D. some of the Marines. I only wish I had taken more pic when I was in. They were great times. I haven’t found a job/career that comes even close. Later…Semper Fi. Top

I served with the Reserve side of VMFA 134, but did quite a bit more than the one week-end a month. I’m trying to find out if anyone out there has kept in touch with SSgt Neu? I think he was in Q.A. I think he was a cop with eihter LAPD or Torrance and also Cpl. R. Yi, he was an airframer, but did a lot of time inside the tool room. Anyway, take care.

Cpl. Crowe,

I don’t know if you remember me or not. Cpl. Rogers from Airframes. I also spent a fair amount of time working in the tool room under Ssgt. Aitcheson and Sgt. Ward. I don’t know if I still have any photos from back then, but if I do I will scan them in and send them along with any names that I can remember. I remember talking with Cpl. Bingham on the phone a few months after I got out, he was moving to an east coast squadron, but I misplaced his contact information when I moved a few months later. I tried looking you up, but couldn’t find anything. That would have been mid to late 98. I was looking for a Ben Crowe in the Indianapolis area, and something else that I came across today suggests that you stayed in the San Diego area for a while so that might be why I didn’t find anything at the time. Otherwise I have been completely out of touch since then. I recognize a lot of the names already mentioned. Some others that I don’t think were mentioned include Sgt. Reimann (Airframes), Sgt. Orrosemanne (Frenchy, Seat shop), and Sgt. Crisco (am I remembering his name right?). I think I might still have his copy of the video tape from the time he, Connely, Graddy, Reimann, Jackson, and I went skydiving. Wow, I haven’t thought about my time in the Marines in a long time, and lots of memories are flooding back as I write this. I need to dig out some boxes from the closet and see if I can find any old pictures from back then.

Semper Fi,
David Rogers

Crowe,
This is GySgt Dizaye, R.J. (ret.). Alive and well and still working for the Border Patrol in San Diego. My older daughter is going to SDSU (and the tuition hikes are KILLING me), my younger daughter is in sixth grade, I’m still married to the same woman (Mary’s a keeper) and all I have to do is hold everything together until retirement. Went to the Miramar Air Show today; forgot how much I missed working in Powerline shop with you guys. Smoke was a great squadron and I still think it was a mistake for HQMC to part it out. Love to see it re-commissioned with F-35’s, wonder if that is possible? Take care.
