Online Apps

16 02 2006

Okay, after yesterday’s post on .pdf converters, I got to looking at how web apps have evolved and found that there are a few things now that I would actually use from time to time. Here’s a list of a few that I liked.

Office-Type WebApps:

1. Thinkfree Online – “Open, edit, and create Office documents with this easy and convenient online service.” Looks to have Word, Excel, and PowerPoint type apps with online .pdf creation and 30Mb storage for free. Access from anywhere, anytime and supports posting to a blog. They also have a desktop suite that will run on Windows, Mac, or Linux and is only ~70Mb.

2. Zoho Writer – Word processor only with .pdf support and blog posting ability (Just not WordPress). Skinnable, lightweight.

Utilities that I like:

1. Agatra – a free service that securely stores your passwords online so that they’re accessible from anywhere you have an internet connection. It can even log you in directly to most sites! (I use Roboform, but this is a nice, free, web-based alternative)

2. Side Job Track -“Web-based job tracking, invoicing, reporting & project management software for the part-time independent contractor”. Very nice and full featured for those that, like I, have used Excel or other templates to manage side work. All-in-one solution!

I’m sure there are many more cool, free, web-based utilities I can use out there, but I also have to do SOME work today! 🙂

Edit: I received a comment about some of the other Zoho offerings and they have a lot of nice development going on over there! They offer a spreadsheet creator, word processor, planner, CRM application, and a virtual office app that includes IM and other nice features! Some apps are free, some in beta. Give ’em a look!

For you screenshot junkies, there’s a load of pics here for the Virtual Office application.

There was just another article (ZDNet) about Online Apps posted here with another mention on Zoho, so I’m not the only one interested in online Office Apps!
